Year Running: 2017/2018
Credit level: F5
Additional Information   Available only to students on BMSU02 and BMSU07

Description

This module will allow students to gain in-depth knowledge of the molecular and genetic processes that underpin cell biology. There is a special emphasis placed on gaining an understanding of modern biomedical laboratory techniques. Topics covered include DNA structure and replication, transcription and translation, protein-protein interactions, enzyme function, signal transduction, membrane dynamics, cytoskeletal and extracellular matrix structure. Modern laboratory techniques will include cloning into plasmid vectors, cDNA and genomic library synthesis, Sanger sequencing and genome analysis, antibody manufacture, RNA in situ analysis, microarray experiments, GFP transgenics and microscopy techniques.
